About Elisa Márquez

Alameda County Supervisor Elisa Márquez proudly represents the diverse communities of District 2, including the cities of Hayward, Newark, Union City, parts of Fremont. Since assuming office in 2023, Supervisor Márquez has been a strong advocate for equitable access to healthcare, meaningful investment in youth, compassionate public safety solutions, and the protection of Alameda County’s social safety net, especially in the face of a hostile federal climate that threatens the County’s most vulnerable residents.

One of Supervisor Márquez’s most impactful accomplishments has been her leadership in helping save St. Rose Hospital, a critical emergency care facility serving Hayward and surrounding communities. When the hospital faced potential closure, Supervisor Márquez worked collaboratively to support its affiliation with Alameda Health System, ensuring that residents would continue to have access to lifesaving emergency and acute care services. This effort protected not only a vital healthcare institution, but also hundreds of healthcare jobs and a cornerstone of community health in District 2.

As Chair of the Alameda County Public Protection Committee, Supervisor Márquez has focused on improving outcomes within the County’s justice system by centering rehabilitation, accountability, and dignity. She has championed the expansion of mental health services and increased educational and reentry programming at Santa Rita Jail and Juvenile Hall. These efforts aim to reduce recidivism, improve conditions for those in custody, and create safer communities by addressing the root causes of justice system involvement rather than relying solely on punitive approaches.

Supervisor Márquez is also deeply committed to investing in young people as a long-term strategy for community wellbeing. She has supported and hosted initiatives such as Science in the Park, which brings hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning directly into neighborhoods. Save the date for the next Science in the Park taking place at Cal State East Bay on Saturday, October 3, 2026.  Supervisor Márquez has also funded youth development programs like Raising Leaders that empower young people with leadership skills, mentorship, internships, and opportunities to thrive. Her approach recognizes youth not only as future leaders, but as essential voices in the present.

A proud and vocal advocate for immigrants, Supervisor Márquez serves as Vice Chair of the Alameda County Together For All, or ACT, Ad-Hoc Committee. In this role, she helps ensure the County is prepared to protect residents, particularly immigrants, refugees, LGBTQ+ community members, and those seeking reproductive healthcare, from harmful federal policies and budget actions. She recently supported the establishment of ICE Free Zones and played a key role in approving a total of $7 million in funding for immigrant and refugee services across Alameda County.

Guided by District 2’s core values of “Connect, Engage, Serve,” Supervisor Elisa Márquez remains committed to building trust, fostering collaboration, and delivering results that reflect the needs and strengths of the communities she represents.
